Paperwork You Should Have on Hand When Thinking of Buying a Home

So you’re thinking about buying a place. The first thing you need to do is figure out what you can afford. Get pre-approved. But then what happens after all of that? After you find a place and you have an accepted offer from your Seller? Did you know that you are going to be asked for a ton of paperwork and documentation? Do you know where all of that paperwork is? Before you go to put that offer down, talk to your lender about what paperwork they will need in order to process your loan, and get that paperwork together, scanned in to your system, and ready to go.

Some of the items you will need are:

  • Bank Statements

  • Photo ID copies

  • Last two or three paystubs

  • W2’s from work

  • If you’re self employed, you’ll need ALL the paperwork - profit and loss statements, etc.

  • Documentation of other income (like alimony, child support, disability, social security, etc.)

  • Documentation of gift income if you’re getting gift

  • Divorce Decree if you have been recently divorced

You will thank me (and yourself) if you have this paperwork handy with a click of a button when your loan processor asks for it. Also keep in mind, when the lender is waiting for paperwork from you, your file is sitting on someone’s desk on hold. Do yourself a favor and have it ready! Happy house hunting!
