Why Do You Need a Real Estate Attorney?
There have been some attacks on our business as real estate attorneys in the past few years trying to make our businesses obsolete. The argument is that many other states do not use real estate attorneys the way we do here in Illinois. I would argue that having an attorney involved in your real estate deal is imperative to a client. I know of plenty of stories from other states (including MN and WI) where a real estate attorney was not involved, and it was detrimental to the buyer or seller of the property. The investment you are making is a big one, and an additional $500-800 fee will save you from headaches in the long run. We also work hand in hand with our real estate brokers to make sure the deal goes smoothly and there is no exposure to lawsuits for any party. I view real estate brokers as our teammates, and they should not be our competition.
