The Biggest Mistakes Buyers Can Make in a Sellers Market

It’s a seller’s market out there, y’all. Rates are low but so is inventory. Which means buyers are out there trying to find homes to purchase, and there aren’t many to choose from. This situation makes buyers feel desperate and frustrated, and sellers feel like they don’t have to negotiate. So if you’re a buyer, what do you do?

First of all, you’re making a big purchase. Find a home you love. But if you need to move, for whatever reason, you can’t be overly picky. And you can’t allow yourself to be bullied into doing things like waiving important protections like your inspection or sales contingencies just to have your offer accepted. You may need to sell a home in order to buy, and you absolutely always need a professional home inspection.

Next, choose a good team. Pick people that are knowledgeable and people that you trust. Let them use the information and experience that they have to guide you through the process. Don’t rely on what you think you know, or your internet research. Those online estimates of what a home is worth may not be accurate, and things you read on the internet about home buying may not apply to the way we do things here in Illinois.

Patience is key. Trust the process and trust the people you work with. It’s an emotional process, but don’t let it get the best of you.
