Lions, Tigers and Heirs…oh my!

It’s so very important to put all real estate you own into your trust. I currently have a client whose wife owned a piece of vacant land and passed away, leaving the home just in her name instead of vested in her trust. Since she is deceased and the property was not in the trust, you’ve either got to probate that piece of property, or have all of her heirs sign off on a deed to convey the property to my client. This is easy if the heirs are all reachable, and agree, but what if they don’t? Even if you own a small piece of property that may be vacant, this should also be placed in your trust. Even if it’s in another state or country. Make sure you mention any property you own when planning your estate plan.
