Adding or Subtracting Value to Your Home

A friend of mine sent me a message last night asking what was better for the value of her home to add: an office or a walk-in pantry. It’s a good question, right? Everyone wants a walk-in pantry, but more people than even are working from home now. I told her a walk-in pantry would be better to add, just because really any bedroom, nook or basement space, even, can be converted into an office. Do you agree?

I did come upon an article of items that will almost definitely subtract value from your home, though. And guess what’s on the list - a small or non-existent pantry. These are some of the other things on the list:

1) Laminate countertops. Get rid of them already. It’s 2022.

2) Lack of storage space (and a little or no pantry).

3) Wall to wall carpeting. Again, 2022.

4) Dark brown cabinets. They may have been in style in 1980, but not anymore.

5) Worn out or bad paint jobs. Have you ever noticed how much a fresh paint job livens up a room?

6) Bad landscaping. Especially because of the pandemic, people focused on outdoor space. This includes not only landscaping, but backyards with cool features.

7) Exterior lighting. This doesn’t have to be fancy, but if you’re going to make your landscaping amazing, why not show it off?
